My first critique of his presidency is the closure of the Guantanemo Bay prison. While many people believed that this prison had unnecessary methods of torture and immoral treatment, What exactly did the terrorists do to get in this prison in the first place? Quite simple. The murder of innocent civilians, the constant threat of terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the death of lots of our U.S. soldiers. Surely shutting down guantanemo is not the way to go. Placing these terrorists in public places, such as state penitentiaries, is a direct threat to national security. Many of these terrorists are not on life sentences, and would end up being released into our homeland. If a rule was set to deport these members back to their respective countries, then perhaps the decision would be less stupid. I sure as hell don't want a terrorist to even have the ability to compromise our security. Another thing that concerns me is that in most prisons inmates find ways, or codes, to communicate with the outside world. Why wouldn't they attempt to connect with suspected terrorists within the country? The patriot act can't stop that (one of the many flaws with the plan). But what the hell, Obama is starting to show his true colors and I look forward to the day when I can say "I told ya so!" Hopefully that day comes in 4 years when the people realize the truth and get his ass out of office.

Bush's 775 million dollar stimulus package had little to no affect on the struggling economy. How could Obama's fix this? What a dumb move on his part. Get your head out of your ass and do something productive.
I don't care for ranting, but this had to be said. Nevertheless, realize that I am praying that the man is very succesful in what he does. God Bless the USA.

ReplyDelete1)Now, yes, there are terrorists in Guantanamo Bay, but not as many as we think. So many of those in Guantanamo Bay are actually *not* terrorists. They have been arrested by a somewhat racist view of Arabs being terrorists. For an example, see the movie "Rendition". And the torture procedures there are SOOO...inappropriate, for lack of a better phrase....
2)Sending them back to their home country is just as bad as keeping them here. Directed at the ones that *are* terrorist, what if they get "in touch" with those in their home country who they were previously joined with??
3)Yeah, in most prisons the criminals can get in contact with the outside world..but this is GUANTANAMO BAY! These "criminals/terrorists" in Guantanamo Bay actually cannot get in touch with the outside world. The prison is on it's own island in Cuba... (speaking of which, they have better healthcare then we do! No joke!)
4)Obama is repealing Bush's tax-cuts because it does not benefit the middle and lower classes. These "tax-cuts" give tax-cuts to those who don't need it, the rich. He is going to replace the previous tax-cuts with tax-cuts that are directed at the middle and lower classes, not the wealthy.
5)Do you realize how pro-active Obama is being?? Bush took FOREVER to do anything, and even then it was most definitely NOT the right thing to do at the time...obviously!

1) Racial reasons? Are you kidding me? 3 fourths of the 775 inmates did SOMETHING to get into this jail. Obviously, I do not believe in the torture that went on inside that jail, but for the 50-80 that have actually committed acts of terrorism (not conspired like many of the inmates) they deserve every-thing that they got.
ReplyDelete2) The U.S. Government is going to RELEASE lots of the inmates. Where will they be? To the United States! I sure as hell don't want them wandering around my country. A type of probation would need to be put on these people to monitor what kinds of things that they are doing. Wouldn't you rather them be in their own country then ours?
3) Thats the whole point....they ARE terrorists. Terrorists do not deserve to have contact with the outside world. And one question: Would you rather get your healthcare here or Cuba? Answer: You wouldn't because people are dying just waiting for operations. This is what social medicine is. Our Capitalized system is far more effective then what Canada has and Cuba for that matter. (I didn't mention this before, but Obama advocated international healthcare or social medicine.)

Obama's tax cuts: This is reminiscent of socialism, take from the rich, give to the poor. I don't believe this is something our founding fathers would approve of. Most rich people work, or have worked for their money. I believe you should retain all of your money that you earn. I don't want to have to pay for other people, sorry thats just me.
5) And I applaud him for that, like I said I hope his plans work. But so far, it looks bleak in my opinion.

It's not like you'll see one of them walking around on the street...and if they are determined as these terrorist groups are, then they are just as dangerous here as back from where they came from. Let's not forget that those who are terrorists committed these attack coming *from* their homeland.
3)...If you saw "Sicko", you'd feel much differently. For example, there was this one guy who accidentally cut two of his fingers off..naturally he had no healthcare as so few in this country do. So when he went to the hospital, the doctors told him they could sew his index finger back on for something like $17,000...probably more; or they could sew the middle finger back on for $32,000....THAT'S the type of healthcare system you advocate?? Rather than being in Canda with free universal healthcare with only a tax increase (not sure how large of an increase)?

3) Sicko is a movie by Michael Moore, a raging socialist. Me watching this movie would be like you advocating Bush's war policies. Where I'm sure the atrocities that he showed are indeed..atrocious to say the least, Universal Healthcare is far worse. People need to understand that Doctor's will stop going to medical school, because the lack of salary provided from Universal healthcare discourages quality doctors. Therefore, student loans cannot be paid off. Honestly, who do you want operating on you?

4) He's replacing them with taxes on some of the hardest working people we have known. Most corporate business CEO's or hard working millionares have earned.

3)Maybe the most heroic people are the ones who are portrayed as the "enemies". You think Thoreau was portrayed as a hero back in the early 1800's? No! He was portrayed as rebellious, I mean, he broke the law!..But he did it standing up for what was right and just. And actually, that's not true. You think garbage men love their job? You think custodians and plumbers are thrilled to do their job? You think *soldiers* can't wait to get out on the battlefield? NO! They do it because they know they have to. Same for doctors. Who's to say they do it for the money, and not for helping people?
Do I want operations performed on me? No, obviously. But I know I'm gonna end up having one at some point. You're talking to someone who's life is BASED around going to hospitals and having healthcare. Let me tell you one thing: if I didn't have healthcare, I would NO DOUBT be dead or on my death bed for now. I live around medication and treatments only affordable because of healthcare.
P.S. My sister is and has been on a waiting list for a lung transplant...she IS actually waiting for an operation...and she has been for about 2 years.
4) You're classifying classes too much. Saying that the rich class is the hardest working class is like me saying that the middle and lower classes are filled with those who strive but fail. Not true, there are those in the lower classes who are in there just because they haven't tried just as there are rich people who gained their wealth by unjust ways or from simple ways like inheritance..
Well..since I wouldn't be affected by the tax cut, yeah. But even if I earned $250,000 a year, I would support it, because I have sympathy for those in the middle and lower classes who are striving to keep afloat in this recession. I know that Maryville has it' own little bubble not affected by the recession, but there are those who are greatly affected by it, like moi.
(If you knew what I've gone through for the past 2-5 years, you would see why I have sympathy for the lower classes, and why I believe what I do about relieving STRESS FROM THE LOWER CLASSES)

ReplyDeleteA majority of the inmates have never commited a violent act against the united states. Only half or so ever would. I dont have the exact stats on hand, but I will find them. The fact is that we are simply playing into the enemies hands. By being in Iraq, Iran, holding/torturing in Guantanamo, funding Israels use of chemical weapons we are validating everything the extremists do.
We are not hated for our freedom. We are hated for our intervention throughout the world. A suicide bomber is 4x as likely to come from a nation occupied by the US than they are to come from a nation under radical islamic rule. Our support (to the tune of $300 billion + per year, including several billion extra just so we can give it to them up front) of Israel is the biggest reason. Both sides are to blame for the current situation there, but can the Palestinians be blamed for retaliating when we took their land from them and gave it to their natural and historical enemy? Of course not! Israel responded with the full might of their Army, the second most powerful in the world, in response to a few random shells each day. Neither is justified, but when Israel is using chemical weapons that are against international law that we have sanctioned and overthrown governments for ignoring, I kind of feel sorry for the arabs. Religion has no place in politics, and millions of arab americans are forced to see their tax dollars go to murder their people each end every year so we can support the Jewish nation and appease the Israel and Christian Right lobbies.
But since you insist on keeping guantanamo and fighting the war on terror, tax cuts should not be mentioned. We are ten trillion dollars in debt, we have to pay taxes for services we want. Both parties are to blame, but especially the Republicans, as they started the two wars and they are the ones who claim fiscal responsibility. The democrats are known to spend way too much, thats just what they do. The republicans campaigned on doing just the opposite then said fuck you voters, well do whatever we want anyway.
That really is just a rant, but ill clarify later
